Book I’m Reading Now:

Please Sorry Thanks - The Three Words That Change Everything

By: Mark Batterson

Review Part 1 – The Psychology of Please:  We each have a unique relationship with words.  We hear them differently based on our experiences.  One word that (if said genuinely) most people respond well to is the word please.  Saying please demonstrates a posture of humility and seeks to add value to others first.  Saying please is setting aside your preferences, it’s relinquishing your rights, and giving others the upper hand.  Saying please means you honor others above yourself and most of the time it produces a ripple effect. When you show kindness and respect to someone by saying please, they have an innate urge to be nice in return.

The greatest reason as to why we should use our words in this way, the reason why we should genuinely say please is because it identifies us with Jesus.  Not because it was a word He used during His life and ministry, but because He recognized His words had the power to change lives and He used them for that purpose.

What if we saw our words as gifts?  We understood that they truly had value and would absolutely bless someone if given at the right time with the right motives. Think of the impact we could have on the people in our lives, the cashier at the store, and even our interaction on social media.  Our words have the power to cause a ripple effect on the other side of the world.  So PLEASE, recognize the power you have in your words and use them to open doors, disarm fears, and heal hurts.  It’s exactly what Jesus would do.

Something to Consider:

John Maxwell says that “Experience isn’t the best teacher, evaluated experience is” so it’s the perfect time for a mid-year review... and reset.  It’s your chance to look back over the first half of the year, breathe it all in, exhale it all out, and make a few choices as to what the next few months will hold.  You might be thinking, ‘where do I even start?’ I got you.  Here are 5 reflection questions for you to consider.  Let’s finish this year strong friends!

  • What am I most proud of accomplishing so far this year?

  • Are my goals still relevant and feel aligned to where I wanted to go at the beginning of the year?

  • What progress has been made? If progress wasn't made, what needs to shift?

  • Should I drop it? Delay it?  Do it in a different way?

  • Are there things I've been neglecting or putting off that are still gnawing at me? What is at the heart of this avoidance, procrastination, or delay?

Quote I’m Pondering Right Now:

“Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any one thing.”

- Abraham Lincoln

“A dream written down with a date becomes a GOAL.  A goal broken down into steps becomes a PLAN.  A plan backed by ACTION makes your dreams come true.”  Hines Ward

Awesome New Album:

  Red Rocks Worship - Ascend

There are lots of great worship teams out there and for me the team from Red Rocks is one of them. In all of the services I’ve attended at Red Rocks there hasn’t been a time when it didn’t feel like they were intentionally trying to exalt Christ. I get that same feel from this new album. I hope it creates in you a desire to worship Jesus as it did me. He is worthy of our worship!

A BIG Thank You!

I’d like to express how thankful I am for each of you.  I recognize there’s lots of great content out there and that your time is valuable.  That you would use a little of it to read my thoughts and stories means the world.  My goal is simply to encourage and inspire people to be all God created them to be and consequently for you to encourage and inspire others.  Together we can make a difference in our little corner of the world!
