VOTD Teaching – Psalm 40:1-2
By: Craig Groeschel
Review: In 2022 I made the decision to pursue remote work so we could travel full time. I thought this career transition would be pretty seamless. I was mistaken. I experienced some spiritual stretching and low points that quite honestly took me by surprise. During one of the low points, I came across this short teaching clip that was exactly what I needed to hear at just the right time. I hope it re-charges your faith as much as it did mine.
Marriage/Relationship Tips:
From: Eric & Rachel Allen
It has been said that to achieve mastery of a field like golf, basketball, chess, music or most anything else, you have to practice at least 10,000 hours. This past Monday Rachel and I celebrated our 30-year wedding anniversary which is the equivalent of 262,800 hours. I’m not ready to claim to be an expert or to have mastered anything, but we have learned a few things in 30 years all of which have been experienced within a relationship with Jesus. I’d like to share a few with you now.
1. Give your spouse room to grow into the person God wants them to be. Recognize they have a different personality than you do, they may have different ambitions, interests, or calling and should be given room to pursue them. The way they see things will likely be different than the way you do.
2. Recognize how powerful your words are and use them to speak into your spouse’s life. You have the power to build faith, help them overcome insecurity, build confidence, and overcome fear simply by speaking the right words at the right time. NEVER let any word come out of your mouth that would hurt or tear down your spouse.
3. Recognize the difference and the value of both your relationship with your spouse and your kids. They are both important, but they are different. One cannot take priority over the other or someone will suffer. They both deserve and require focused time and attention but not at the expense of the other. Create special moments with each.
4. Be willing to make sacrifices for each other. Consider your spouse’s needs, desires, and interests before your own. If each of you are focused on putting the other’s needs/desires before your own, it creates a beautiful balance of mutual love and fulfillment.
5. Build trust on the foundation that you always have each other’s best interest in mind. This creates safety and the freedom to lower defenses and be vulnerable with each other. It also gives you freedom to work through disagreements without fear, knowing this person wants what’s best for me.
Really Cool Livestream:
Katmai National Park’s Famous Bear Cam
We love our National Parks and have had the privilege of visiting many of them. However, this is SO cool. The famous bear cam livestream at Alaska’s Katmai National Park is back for its 12th year running, documenting the park’s brown bears as they find the best salmon fishing spots in Brooks Falls. The cam launched in 2012 and has a live chat that’s really fun to watch and participate in. Also keep an eye out for bald eagles, lots of gulls, and even the occasional wolf trying to participate in the salmon buffet. Peak season is June-July. Prepare to be amazed!
Quote I’m Pondering Right Now:
“All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
- J.R.R. Tolkien
Mark Batterson, the author of The Circle Maker said, “Let me make a prediction: your biggest regret at the end of your life won’t be the things you did that you wish you hadn’t. Your biggest regret will be the things you didn’t do but wish you had.” Live intentionally, today!
A BIG Thank You!
I’d like to express how thankful I am for each of you. I recognize there’s lots of great content out there and that your time is valuable. That you would use a little of it to read my thoughts and stories means the world. My goal is simply to encourage and inspire people to be all God created them to be and consequently for you to encourage and inspire others. Together we make a difference in our little corner of the world!
